FESTIVAL

During the weekend of 4 October to 6 October 2024, the International Choir Competition Flanders will take place for the 17th time. After a 30-year tradition in Maasmechelen, the competition will  - for the second time - take place at C-mine in Genk, in the heart of Limburg. There, the past and the charm of the old mine buildings go hand in hand with contemporary creativity: the right place, therefore, to expand the choir competition into a real choir festival.

The musical weekend traditionally opens with a high-class concert on Friday evening by Apollo 5.

On Saturday, the international choir competition takes place for 12 selected choirs with equal or mixed voices. They sing a competition program including a compulsory work, composed especially for IKV-Genk by a Flemish composer.

During a concert on Saturday evening, the participating choirs fraternise with each other in concert and also afterwards. The concert will take place in the main hall of C-Mine.

Sunday is a full festival day with workshops for everyone who likes singing, for choir singers and conductors. At the most beautiful locations of C-mine, the international  competition choirs get a podium for a free program. Choirs and groups from Genk and all over Flanders will perform alternately with them. This gives the audience and singers the opportunity to get to know each other better and to sing together.

On Sunday evening, the festival closes with the announcement of the results, followed by a smashing concert by the prize winners from the equal and mixed voices categories.
