Zingende tafels 1.png

The Singing Tables are a household name in Genk and the surrounding area, and are a must at this festival. With a lovely drink in hand, you can sing along in a relaxed atmosphere with literally everyone sitting around and next to you at the table, accompanied by live instruments such as the piano, guitar and accordion.

If you’d like to sing well-known Flemish classics and international hits, you’re very welcome. You don’t need to be an experienced singer to take part. The focus is on having fun, meeting people and the social aspect. Jeroen Vanesser will be keeping this singing extravaganza running smoothly.

Participation is FREE. Please register in advance.

Location: Compressorenhal

Jonas Rasmussen 8.jpeg

Jonas Rasmussen is undoubtedly a new phenomenon on the international choral scene. From playful warm-ups to in-depth insights into the repertoire, he makes choral music accessible, exciting, and relevant to everyone.

During this workshop, he’ll take you on a journey through the soundscapes, traditions and current trends of Scandinavian choral music. This workshop is both practical and listening-focused: you’ll sing selected excerpts yourself and listen together to illustrative examples. Jonas shares his personal favourites from the various Scandinavian countries—ranging from well-known masters to surprising, lesser-known discoveries. An inspiring must-attend for any choir singer or conductor wishing to discover the surprising approach of this leading Danish conductor!

This workshop takes place at the Barenzaal.
Tickets: € 10

Jonas: The workshop on Sunday 4 October will focus on Scandinavian choral music. It will be both practical and listening-based: the participants will sing selected excerpts themselves, and we will also listen to examples together.

My aim is to give an inspiring introduction to the sound world, traditions, and current tendencies of Scandinavian choral music. I will try to cover some of my personal favourite composers from each of the Scandinavian countries, including both well-known names and perhaps a few less familiar discoveries.

The workshop is specifically about Scandinavian choral music but presented in a way that should be accessible and relevant for singers and conductors more generally.

10h00 - 12h00: Workshop South American choral music

Let yourself be guided by Maria Guinand (Venezuela), an internationally renowned conductor and inspiring teacher who will take you on a journey through Caribbean and Latin American rhythms, singing and moving along the way. Expect infectious grooves, compelling polyphony and percussive vocal techniques that will immediately bring out the sparkle in you as a choir singer.
