The Leo Vocal Choir celebrated its 30th anniversary in 2023, and one of its greatest achievements is that it has become a leading voice in Cuban choral music, with a highly distinctive style. Experts highlight the choir’s volume, remarkable sound, the singers’ technical skill, their unique stage presence and the members’ professional discipline.

 

They have performed in many countries, including Nicaragua, Guatemala, Colombia, Argentina, the United States, Spain and Germany, to name but a few. They won first prize for choral singing at Cubadisco 2021; the two gold medals in the polyphony and popular music categories at the World Choir Games, held in 2004 in Bremen, Germany; and the special jury prize and the audience prize at the international choir competition in the German town of Marktoberdorf in 2019.

 

Conductor Corina Campos: “I would describe Vocal Leo as a very cheerful choir. We are one big family. Nothing is arbitrary, not even when I, the conductor, make a suggestion. We exchange suggestions, opinions and perspectives. I am open to the contributions each member can make, because they are part of our collective creation, and I encourage that.”

“I strive to create an atmosphere of camaraderie and solidarity and, despite our differences, to build wonderful relationships. There must be no barriers between us, because communication on stage is essential. It is no coincidence that choir directors, in addition to their academic and musical skills, must also have knowledge of pedagogy and psychology.”
